Apama Mackey Gallery

Apama Mackey photo gallery

628 East 11th Street, Houston, TX (Heights between Studewood and Heights Blvd)

The new Apama Mackey Gallery is a 1400 sq. ft. gallery with an additional enclosed courtyard. The gallery is completely modular and has been design to be dismantled, moved, and reassembled with less than 5% waste. This allows for an extremely aggressive build time. (We had our very first discussion with Apama at the beginning of March and her gallery will be ready the first week of July!) By this Saturday, the currently empty lot will play host to a completely enclosed, secured building. Wow!

This style of construction also allows for another INCREDIBLY unique circumstance in that Apama does not own the land where her gallery will be placed. The land is owned by a developer who has intentions for the land, but will not begin construction for several years. The ultimate win-win situation is created. The developer secures a land lease and culturally enhances his neighborhood while Apama gains precious time to find and secure the perfect piece of land for her long term location.

The gallery’s unique construction includes the following:

  • Three recycled shipping containers: Two 40ft high cubes (9’6” tall) & one 20ft std. (8’ 6” tall)
  • Custom panelized roof and floor system utilizing Structural Insulated Panels (SIPs are extremely energy efficient and virtually eliminate the need for traditional framing while dramatically reducing waste and build time.)
  • On demand hot water heater
  • Modularized walls built with traditional construction materials
  • Clerestory panels and office windows made from Polygal. (An insulated polycarbonate that is more energy efficient than glass, yet less expensive and more secure.)
  • Onsite parking will be permeable paving made from a polyethylene turf cell system that can also be removed and relocated with the building.

Apama Mackey contracted with Numen Development, LP in March for the design and construction of her new gallery. Numen Development, LP is a full service General Contractor dedicated to efficient innovation. We currently fabricate shipping container modules from recycled containers and modular wall panels from various materials in our 15,000 sq. ft. warehouse East of downtown. We have been developing designs with shipping containers for two years and are currently exploring designs for single family residences, various commercial structures, ranch homes, beach homes, and artist live/work spaces. (To name a few!)
